PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The DOC4D uses the existing cellular infrastructure, in
particular the digital overhead control channel, to transport
alarm and status changes. Since the more robust, control channel
portion of the network is used; actual coverage exceeds that of
the voice side.
The alarm messages are received at eLynx's central data
facility through a secure connection. A specific ten-digit number
embedded in each message identifies the customer, device name, and
location. The status of each of the four inputs is also contained
in the message. A comparison is made to determine which input(s)
are in alarm, and appropriate notifications are delivered to the
customer's e-mail, alphanumeric pager, or text messaging cell
phone.
